Ex- Man United Quartet Inspires Inter’s Triumph

The quartet played a combined 88 Premier League games for Manchester United in 2018/2019 season but this time turned out together for Inter Milan accounting for 107 Serie A appearances, ending Inter Milan 11-year title drought.

Romelu Lukaku left Manchester United with 42 goals in 96 games across two years with 26-percent of his tally coming in the first two months of his Old Trafford career. He joined Inter Milan in 2019 on a five-year deal on a record fee of 74 million pounds. Since joining Inter, Lukaku has scored 59 goals in 85 appearances. Antonio Conte has named Lukaku as an inspiring motive to victory, who have spearheaded Inter’s title. The 27-year-old has risen to the challenge at Inter and has even surpassed Icardi’s goal scoring rate.

Ashley Young has been another top player having been Manchester United captain for long. He spent nine-and-half seasons at the club before parting ways with United manager Ole Gunner Solskjaer for Inter Milan. Young won the English Premier League title, the FA title and Europa League. The 35-year old captain, who joined the Reds in the 2011 summer, made 261 appearances, scoring 19 goals. He joined the Serie A giants in January 2020 becoming the third Manchester United player to sign for Antonio Conte’s side in less than 12 months, following the transfers of Alexis Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku last summer.

On the other side, Alexis Sanchez has not enjoyed his stay in Inter Milan having scored only two goals in seven Serie A games coming off the bench five times. He made 45 appearances at Old Trafford scoring five goals without winning any trophy.

Matteo Darmian ended being a match-winner on Sunday after striking the only goal, sealing an 11th successful Inter’s victory. Antonio Conte lauded Darmian after he helped the Nerazzurri to a 1-0. The former Manchester United defender settled a difficult match against the relegation-threatened Sardinians at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza. Conte claimed that Darmian was an important member of the team, despite often playing as back-up to Hakimi. The full-back joined the Reds from Torino in 2015 and went on to make 92 appearances for the club. In four years with United, Matteo scored one goal against Crystal Palace in 2016, in a 2-0 win.

Inter Milan clinched their first title of the Serie A in 11 years this season. The 11-year trophy drought ended on Sunday after Sassoulo fall into a 1-1 draw with Atalanta. The league title is Inter’s first since winning the Serie A, Coppa Italia title and UEFA Champions League in 2009/2010 season under the direction of Jose Mourinho. Inter Milan comes second with 19 title after overtaking AC Milan who have 18 titles. Juventus stands as a successful club in Italy with a total of 36 titles.
